How do you schedule an event on Discord?
Scheduled Events live at the top of your server's channel list, and members see them on the event card, in the server, and anywhere you share the link.
- 1Make sure you have the Create Events permission. A Stage event also needs channel management and member moderation rights in that channel; a Voice event needs access to the channel.
- 2Open the server menu and choose Create Event.
- 3Pick where it happens: a Stage channel, a Voice channel, or Somewhere Else, with a location or link.
- 4Add a topic (up to 100 characters), a start time and a description (up to 1,000 characters). Somewhere Else events also need an end time.
- 5Add a cover image. It's what people see on the event card.
- 6Set it to repeat if it's a weekly office hour or a monthly AMA.
- 7Copy the event link and share it in your announcements channel and everywhere else you promote.

That's plenty for a weekly series. When the event starts it switches from scheduled to active, and Stage and Voice events end a few minutes after the last person leaves.
Stage, voice or somewhere else: which event type should you pick?
The type decides how the event feels. Pick by how many people should talk.
| Event type | Best for | Who talks | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stage channel | AMAs, talks, launches, panels | Speakers on stage; the audience raises a hand to ask | You need a Stage Moderator to bring people up |
| Voice channel | Office hours, co-working, small meetups | Everyone can talk | Gets chaotic past a dozen open mics |
| Somewhere Else | Zoom webinars, livestreams, in-person meetups | Happens off Discord | Needs a location and an end time, and doesn't run inside a channel |

The common mistake is making everything a Somewhere Else event. If it happens on Discord, run it on Discord: the start notification points members straight at the channel, and nobody has to find a second link.
How do you get people to click Interested, and then show up?
The Interested count is your RSVP list. Each tap subscribes a member to the event, the count shows on the card, and everyone subscribed gets a notification when the event starts. That's the catch: Discord doesn't send a reminder the day before. The only push comes at the start, and members say it's easy to miss.
So treat Interested as a soft yes and build your own reminders around it:
- Announce about 7 days out with the event link and one line on why it's worth an hour.
- Post again the day before, with what you'll cover and a thread for questions.
- Ping your opt-in events role an hour before.
- Post "we're live" with the link the minute you start.
Expect online events to lose people. Webinar data is the closest benchmark for a Discord AMA:
47.7%
Average live show-up rate for webinars, attendees divided by registrants
Source: Livestorm, 2026
Livestorm also found that 15% of webinar registrations come in on the day itself. Keep the event pinned and keep promoting right up to the start.
How do you announce an event and ping without annoying the server?
Pings are a currency. Spend @everyone on a big event once or twice a month and members keep notifications on. Spend it every week and they mute the server, and then your events reach nobody.
- Create an opt-in Events role. Let members pick it during onboarding or with a reaction role, then ping that role instead of everyone.
- Use an announcements channel. In a Community server you can make it an Announcement channel that other servers follow, so your event post appears in their server too.
- One event per post: title, a Discord timestamp so every member sees their own time zone, the event link, and one line on who it's for.
- Save @everyone for the events that earn it: a big launch, or a guest your whole server wants to hear.
How do you run an AMA or virtual meetup people come back to?
A Discord AMA is a Stage event with a guest worth asking. The format is simple. The prep decides whether 20 people or 200 show up.
- 1Pick a guest your members actually want: a founder they admire, the maintainer of a tool they use, a buyer they'd like to sell to.
- 2Open a questions thread 3 to 5 days before. Questions in advance give people a reason to come back.
- 3Ask the guest to share the event link with their own audience. Their reach is your growth.
- 4Run 45 to 60 minutes: a short intro, the best questions from the thread, then raised hands from the audience.
- 5Post a recap within a day, with the 3 best answers and the date of the next one.
Virtual meetups use the same skeleton in a Voice channel: a host, a topic and a time box. Same day and time every week or month beats one-offs, because a habit beats a launch. Set the event to repeat and members can plan their week around it. For builder events, see how to promote a hackathon.
Can you promote your event in other people's Discord servers?
Only with the admins on board. Dropping your event link in someone else's #general is the self-promotion most servers ban. The mods remove it, and often you with it. Partnering works far better: the admin gets good content for their members, and you get their audience.
- Co-host the AMA, with their community's questions first.
- Hold seats or a Q&A slot for their members.
- Follow each other's announcement channels so events show up in both servers.
- Return the favor and promote their next event in yours.
Hey everyone! Join our AI Builders AMA this Thursday with a YC founder, link here: [link] See you there!!
Hey Nina, I run the Indie AI Builders server. Sam Ortiz is doing a live AMA on shipping agents to production next Thursday, and your members ask about that a lot in #help. Want to co-host it, with your community's questions first?
Reach admins the way their server asks for partnership requests, a ticket channel, mod mail or a listed contact. If there's no route, a friend request first, then a short DM like the one above.
Can you DM members about an event without breaking the rules?
Carefully, and one person at a time. Discord's policy is clear: sending unsolicited bulk messages is prohibited, whether it comes from a spambot, a self-bot or a person doing it by hand, and modifying the client to automate account actions isn't allowed either. Many servers also ban promotional DMs outright, so read the rules channel first. (This summarizes Discord's published policies, it isn't legal advice.)
Then the mechanics. DMs from people who aren't friends are filtered into Message Requests by default. Since March 2026, every account gets teen-default settings until it's age-assured, and on those accounts that filter can't be switched off. A cold DM is a request waiting in a side folder.
What works: invite people who asked in a channel, tapped Interested, or share a server and a role with your attendee profile, and start with a plain friend request. Once they accept, your DM lands in their normal inbox. The full order is in friend request or DM first.

Thanks for the add. Saw your question in #agents about evals last week. Sam Ortiz is doing a live Q&A on exactly that Thursday at 6pm ET in Indie AI Builders. Want the event link?
Is it recorded? I'm in Berlin, 6pm ET is midnight for me.
We record the stage and post the recap in #ama-recaps the next day. Drop your question here and I'll make sure Sam answers it live, so it's in the recording.
Nice. It's about running evals on a small budget.
Added. Here's the event, tap Interested and you'll get a ping when we go live: [link]
How many reminders should you send for a Discord event?
3 from you, plus Discord's own start notification. More than that and members start muting.
- The day before: an announcement post with the agenda and the questions thread.
- An hour before: a role ping.
- At the start: the "we're live" post. Discord notifies everyone who tapped Interested.
- For anyone who said yes in a DM: one personal reminder in that same DM.
Hey Lukas, we're live in 1 hour on the Stage. Your evals question is third on Sam's list. See you there?
If you use Discord to fill an in-person meetup, plan for drop-off. PheedLoop's data on 1,070+ live events puts the median no-show at about 28% for free events and 17% for paid ones. Over-invite to match, and see event attendance rate benchmarks and how to reduce event no-shows for the rest of the math.
How MyBazooka handles this
MyBazooka learns your event in one conversation: it reads your website and asks who should be in the room and what makes this AMA or meetup worth their evening. On Discord it collects members of the servers you're in, from a channel link, with each member's role, presence and activity, skipping bots. The same campaign collects on LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, Reddit, Threads and cold email, so your guest list isn't limited to one server.
Each member is researched individually, from the server and role you share, their about me and their activity. The first touch is a plain friend request, and the personal DM goes out the moment it's accepted, inside 15 to 25 friend requests and 12 to 18 DMs a day per profile, on Discord profiles we provide with their own IP and browser, never your personal account. When people answer, the AI conversation agent handles the rest: agenda, guest, time zones, recordings, follow-ups when they go quiet, until they're registered. Registrants get a native thank you page and personal reminders in the same Discord chat, plus email and SMS.
Every accept, reply and registration feeds back in, so the servers and roles that register people get more of the volume. Plans start at $2,897 a month, month to month, cancel any time. See pricing or book a strategy session.
Questions people ask
How do I schedule an event on Discord?
With the Create Events permission, open the server menu, choose Create Event, pick a Stage channel, Voice channel or Somewhere Else, then add a topic, start time, description and cover image. Somewhere Else events also need a location and an end time. Share the event link in your announcements channel.
How do I get people to attend a Discord event?
Announce it a week out, ask members to tap Interested, post again the day before with a questions thread, ping an opt-in events role an hour before and post when you go live. Discord only notifies Interested members at the start, so the earlier reminders are on you.
How do I run an AMA on Discord?
Create a Stage event with a guest your members want, open a questions thread 3 to 5 days before and ask the guest to share the link. Run 45 to 60 minutes, starting with the best pre-submitted questions, then raised hands, and post a recap within a day.
Can I promote my event in other people's Discord servers?
Only with the admins' permission. Most servers ban self-promotion in their channels. Offer a partnership instead: co-host the event, hold seats for their members, or follow each other's announcement channels.
How many reminders should I send for a Discord event?
Three from you: a post the day before, a role ping an hour before and a we're-live post at the start, which is also when Discord notifies Interested members. Add one personal reminder for anyone who said yes in a DM.
Can I DM members about an event without breaking the rules?
Only personally and in small numbers. Discord prohibits unsolicited bulk messages, including ones sent by hand, and many servers ban promotional DMs. Invite people who showed interest or share your server and role, start with a friend request and send the DM once they accept.
