Threads vs X for B2B lead generation: where founders actually answer in 2026

Every founder who built an audience on X has asked the same thing in the last year: should I move to Threads? For outreach the question is sharper. Where do the people you want to sell to actually read their DMs and answer? The honest answer is that the two apps now have similar reach and very different habits. Here's what the numbers say and how to decide.

    The size question is settled

Threads isn't the empty room it was in 2023. Meta reported it passed 350 million monthly active users in early 2025. And on phones, the gap to X has closed.

So you can stop asking whether your buyers are on Threads at all. For most B2B audiences under 45, a good chunk of them are. The better question is how they use it.

    The habit question is not

Here's the catch. Third-party estimates put daily time on Threads at around 5 minutes, against roughly 34 on X. People on Threads check in. People on X live there.

That changes how you run outreach. On X, a DM can sit for a day and still get seen in the next long session. On Threads, you get a smaller window, and your name needs to be familiar the moment they glance at their requests. Warm-up matters more, not less.

    03

    Who you'll find where

X still owns the hardcore build-in-public crowd: developer tools founders, AI engineers, indie hackers posting revenue screenshots, and VCs. If you sell to technical founders, X is the deeper pool.

Threads pulled a different mix. Founders and operators who got tired of X, agency owners, coaches and creators who came over from Instagram, and a lot of marketers testing the newest channel. Meta also says more than a third of daily Threads users with connections follow mostly different accounts there than on Instagram. So it's not just Instagram with text. It's its own graph.

    • Selling dev tools or infra to engineers: start on X.
    • Selling services to agencies, coaches or creator businesses: Threads is often warmer.
    • Selling to SaaS and AI founders in general: run both, they overlap less than you'd think.

Outreach is less crowded on Threads

X DMs have been hammered by bots and cold pitches for years. A lot of founders simply lock their inbox. Threads messaging only went live in July 2025, and cold requests only in September. There's less noise, and people haven't built the reflex to ignore every request yet.

The trade-off: Threads is stricter. Messages to non-followers go to requests, links are off in those requests, and there's a cap on how many you can send. On X, the problem is closed inboxes. On Threads, it's the request folder. Both reward the same thing, being a name they've seen before.

There's a traffic angle too. Newsweek reported that in March 2025 it got more referral traffic from Threads, with 160,000 followers, than from X, with 3.5 million. One publisher isn't proof of anything for you, but it shows attention on Threads can punch above its follower count.

How to decide in one week

Don't debate it. Test it. Pick 100 good-fit prospects who are active on both apps. Warm up and DM 50 on each with the same core message. Count replies, not impressions.

    Same opener, both appsGets replies

Hey Sam, saw your post about hiring your first salesperson. Are you still doing all the founder-led sales yourself for now?

Keep everything else equal. Same send times, same follow-up rhythm, same warm-up of a like and a real reply before the DM. If you change the message on one side, you're testing the message, not the platform.

Give it a full week before you judge. Threads replies tend to come in bursts, when people open the app, and X replies drift in over longer sessions. A two-day test will lie to you.

Whichever app answers more gets more of your budget. For many teams the answer ends up being both, with different audiences on each. The founders who ignore one of them are usually the ones who never tested it.

    How Bazooka handles this

What it does on Threads, step by step.

You don't have to pick. Bazooka runs X and Threads side by side on accounts we provide. On Threads it collects the followers of any profile and who it follows in the same run, everyone who replied to a post, and your own followers. It warms up with a like and a short comment on 1 to 3 posts, then DMs on a later day, at 15 to 25 profile views and 12 to 18 DMs a day per account.

Replies come in live and the AI closer runs the conversation until the call is booked. Because every reply is measured, you'll see which platform answers for your offer, and the system shifts its effort there.

    FAQ

    Questions people ask

Is Threads bigger than X now?

On daily mobile users, Similarweb's January 2026 estimate put Threads ahead, at 141.5 million versus 125 million. People still spend much more time per day on X.

    Is Threads good for B2B?

For agencies, coaches, creator businesses and a lot of SaaS founders, yes. For deeply technical buyers, X is still usually the deeper pool. Test both with the same message.

Can I send the same DM on Threads and X?

The core idea, yes. Keep the Threads version shorter and more casual, and leave links out, since links are disabled in Threads message requests to people who don't follow you.
