What can the Threads API do, and what can't it?
Meta opened the Threads API to developers in 2024. It lets apps publish posts, read profiles and media, manage and hide replies, and pull insights. That's why every social media scheduler added Threads within months.
What it doesn't include is messaging. Threads got DMs in July 2025, and in September 2025 Meta let people message accounts that don't follow them. But none of that is exposed through a public API. Comparisons of DM automation APIs in 2026 list Threads under "no public messaging API", next to YouTube and Pinterest.
Which tools publish to Threads?
If your Threads plan is content first, a scheduler is all you need. Buffer, Hootsuite, Metricool and most of their competitors publish to Threads alongside Instagram, LinkedIn and X, and show you basic analytics.
They're good at what they do. Plan a week of posts, cross-post a LinkedIn idea in a shorter form, see which posts got replies. They won't find you a single prospect or start a conversation, and none of them claim to.

With an audience that size, posting well does bring people to your profile. It just brings them on their timeline, not yours.
Do comment-to-DM tools work on Threads?
No. ManyChat, ReplyRush, InstantDM and similar tools run comment-to-DM flows on Instagram and Facebook through Meta's messaging APIs. Threads isn't on that list, because there's no messaging API to connect to.
You'll see people run "comment GUIDE below" posts on Threads anyway and then send the DMs by hand. That's fine at 20 comments. It falls apart at 200.
Meta has also tested a "DM me" shortcut on Threads that makes it easier for people to message you from a post. If that rolls out widely, inbound DMs on Threads get easier to trigger. Replying to them is still manual today.
What about Threads scrapers?
On marketplaces like Apify you'll find a dozen Threads scrapers: profile scrapers, follower scrapers, "lead" scrapers and email finders. Pricing starts around $3.99 per 1,000 results, or a monthly fee plus usage.
They give you usernames, bios, links, follower counts and sometimes a public email. That's a list. It's not outreach.
- Good for: research, sizing an audience, finding the creators your buyers follow.
- Weak for: context. A scraped row rarely says why that person is worth messaging.
- Missing: everything after the list, from warm-up to the DM to the reply.
If you use a scraper, keep the source next to every name: which account they follow, which post they replied to. That line becomes your opener.
What does real Threads outreach need?
Look at what actually gets answered on Threads and the requirements write themselves:
- 1A list with a reason: people who replied to a post about your problem, or who follow the accounts your buyers follow.
- 2An account that looks like a person: profile photo, bio, posts, history of replying to people.
- 3Warm-up before the DM: a like and a short, real reply on 1 to 3 of their posts.
- 4A short first message, because DMs to non-followers land in Message Requests with links and media switched off.
- 5A human pace, since Meta caps requests without saying where the cap is.
- 6Fast replies when they answer, because people check Threads in short bursts.
Hey Maya, liked your reply about clients ghosting after the proposal. Do you follow up yourself or does someone on the team own that?
None of the categories above does all 6. Schedulers do none. Scrapers do the first half of number 1.

API scope checked October 1, 2026, against Meta's Threads API documentation and Blotato's DM API comparison.
A sensible stack for most teams: a scheduler for your own posts, plus one outreach system. Skip the rest.
What should you ask before you buy a Threads tool?
Four questions sort the useful tools from the risky ones in about 5 minutes:
- 1Does it use the official Threads API, and for what? If it claims DMs through the API, it's mistaken or misleading.
- 2Whose account does it act from? Your main brand account is the last place to test anything aggressive.
- 3What happens before the DM? No warm-up means a cold request from a stranger, which mostly gets ignored.
- 4What happens after a reply? A tool that sends but doesn't answer leaves your best leads waiting until you notice.
If a vendor can't answer all 4 clearly, keep looking.
What it does on Threads, step by step.
Bazooka is the outreach system in that stack. It collects Threads leads from the followers of any profile and who it follows, in the same run, from everyone who replied to a post, and from your own followers, and keeps where it found each person. The AI reads the bio, link, audience and verified status, plus what they replied, and writes the first DM from that.
Ready-made Threads profiles we provide, each with its own IP and browser, view the profile and like and comment on 1 to 3 posts first. The DM follows on a later day, at 15 to 25 profile views and 12 to 18 DMs a day per account. Replies arrive live, and the AI closer answers, follows up and books the call. Plans start at $497 a month with your own profiles, or $1,897 with 24 ready-made profiles included.
Questions people ask
Is there a Threads DM automation tool?
Not through an official API. Meta's Threads API covers publishing, replies and insights, but has no public messaging endpoint. Tools that send Threads DMs have to use the app the way a person would.
Does ManyChat work on Threads?
No. ManyChat's comment-to-DM and DM flows run on Instagram, Facebook and other supported channels. Threads has no messaging API for it to connect to.
Which schedulers support Threads?
Buffer, Hootsuite and Metricool are among the many schedulers that publish to Threads through its API, alongside basic analytics.
Can you scrape Threads followers for leads?
There are scraper tools that collect public profile data, priced from around $3.99 per 1,000 results. They give you a list, not a conversation, so you still need to warm up and message each person.
What's the best Threads outreach tool?
One that does the whole job: builds a list with context, warms up with likes and replies, sends short DMs at a human pace, and answers replies fast. Publishing tools and scrapers each cover only a slice.
Can I send links in Threads DMs?
Not in message requests to people who don't follow you, where links and media are switched off. Once they reply or follow you, links work.
