What does X allow you to automate in DMs?
X's automation rules draw a clear line. You may not send bulk or automated unsolicited DMs. You may send automated DMs when the person has asked for them or clearly shown they want to hear from you, and you give them an easy way to opt out.
Separately, X caps raw volume. OpenTweet puts the ceiling at roughly 500 DMs a day on a free account and around 1,000 on Premium. Treat those as limits you should never get near, not targets. Our X DM limits guide explains why.

Are auto-DM tools like Hypefury allowed?
Engagement-triggered DMs are the safest kind of DM automation on X, because the person did something first. You post "Reply GUIDE and I'll send you the checklist", someone replies, the tool sends the checklist by DM. That's the person asking to be contacted.
Hypefury built this into a broader scheduling tool, starting at $29 a month according to The GTM Directory. For a creator with an engaged audience, it's an easy win: every viral post turns into a list of people who raised their hand.
The limit is reach. Auto-DM tools only talk to people who already found you. If your buyers aren't in your replies yet, there's nothing to trigger.
What about cold DM tools like Drippi?
Cold DM tools go after people who haven't engaged with you. Drippi is one of the best-known names: it scrapes lists of targets on X and personalizes messages with AI, built for teams that want DM volume.
Two things decide whether cold DMs work on X, whatever tool you use. First, delivery: a DM from someone they don't follow lands in their Requests folder, where many never look. Second, the message: anything that reads like a template gets ignored or reported. We cover both in cold DMs on X that founders answer.
And the rules still apply. A tool that sends the same message to hundreds of strangers is sending bulk unsolicited DMs, whatever the personalization tokens say. Before you buy, ask the vendor how it paces sends and what it does about consent. If the answer is vague, that's your answer.
Hey {first_name}! Loved your profile. We help founders like you 10x their growth. Open to a quick chat?
What should you look for in an X outreach tool?
Skip the feature grid. These are the questions that matter:
- Does it warm people up first, with likes and real replies, so your name isn't new when the DM arrives?
- Does it check whether the inbox is open, and skip people who don't accept DMs?
- Is every message written for one person, from their profile and their work, or is it a template with a name swapped in?
- How many DMs a day does it send per profile, and does that look like a person?
- Does it catch replies fast and keep the conversation going, or does it stop at "sent"?
- Does it book the call, or hand you a pile of half-finished chats?
Most tools answer two or three of these well. Pick the one whose gaps you're happy to fill yourself.
When should you just do it by hand?
Earlier than most people think. If you've never had 50 real DM conversations with your buyers on X, a tool will just scale a message you haven't tested. Spend two weeks doing it yourself: reply to their posts, DM the ones with open inboxes, see what they answer.
Hey Lucas, congrats on the team plan launch. Most dev tools we work with get their first 50 team deals through outbound nobody has to run. Worth a look?
Once you know which opener works and who replies, automation has something real to scale. The reply first, DM second warm-up is the best place to start.
What it does on X, step by step.
Bazooka isn't a DM blaster. It collects leads from X Communities, the repliers and quote posters on posts in your niche, the followers of accounts your buyers follow, and your own followers. The AI reads each profile and website link, then researches the company. Each prospect gets a profile view, a like and a short reply on 1 to 3 posts, which also checks whether their DMs are open. Closed inboxes are skipped. The DM follows on a later day, written for that person.
Every profile runs in its own real browser at a human pace, with 12 to 18 DMs a day per profile. The AI closer picks up replies, follows up and books calls onto your calendar, and the system learns from every result. It can post your content to X too. Questions people ask
Can you automate DMs on X (Twitter)?
Yes, within X's rules. Automated DMs are fine when the person asked for them or clearly signaled they want to hear from you, with an easy opt-out. Bulk or automated unsolicited DMs are not allowed.
What is the best Twitter DM automation tool?
For DMs to people who engage with your posts, Hypefury is a simple, cheap choice. For cold outreach, look at how a tool warms people up, paces sends and handles replies before you look at price.
Is Drippi safe to use?
Any cold DM tool carries risk if it sends similar messages to many strangers quickly. Ask how it paces sends and personalizes, keep volume per profile low, and read X's automation rules yourself.
How many DMs can I send on X per day?
OpenTweet puts the cap around 500 a day on a free account and about 1,000 on Premium. For cold outreach, stay far below that, a dozen or two a day per profile.
Will X ban me for auto DMs?
Automated DMs to people who didn't ask for them can get your account restricted or suspended. DMs triggered by someone replying to your post with a keyword are a different story.
Do I need X Premium for DM outreach?
Not to start. Premium raises the DM cap and can make your messages look more credible, but warming people up and writing personal messages matter more than the badge.
