How to get clients from Reddit: a 30-day plan for agencies, consultants and coaches

To get clients from Reddit, find the threads where your buyers describe the problem you solve, start private conversations with the people in them about what they wrote, and only talk about your offer once they're interested. Don't promote in public, don't send links in first messages, and use an account that looks like a real person. Below is a week-by-week plan you can start today, with the messages, the pace and the numbers to track.

Before day 1: is your Reddit account ready?

Reddit judges your messages by your account. When someone gets a Reddit Chat request, they see your username, karma, account age and history before they read a word. A blank, brand-new account pitching a stranger looks like spam because it usually is.

Reddit also restricts brand-new accounts. Community guidance for new users says sending chat requests is limited for roughly the first week, and karma and good standing matter after that. Reddit doesn't publish an exact daily chat number for people sending from the app.

    • Use an account with real history: some posts, some comments, some karma, a few months of age.
    • Write a short bio that says what you do. Disclosure buys trust.
    • Spend a few days reading and upvoting in your target subreddits before you message anyone.
    02

Week 1: which subreddits hold your clients?

Your goal this week is a shortlist of 5 to 10 subreddits where your buyers talk about their work. Not where your peers talk about theirs.

    • Agencies selling to SaaS: r/SaaS, r/startups, niche founder communities.
    • Sales and lead gen services: r/sales, r/smallbusiness, industry-specific trade subs.
    • Coaches and consultants: the communities of the profession you serve, not coaching subs full of other coaches.
    • Local and trade services: trade subreddits where owners discuss running the business.

Test each one: read the last 25 posts. If 3 or more describe a problem you solve, from people who clearly run or work at a business, keep it. Read the rules too. Many ban self-promotion entirely, which is fine, because you won't be promoting there.

    03

Week 2: how do you build a list from threads?

Search your shortlist for the phrases buyers use when they're shopping: "any recommendations for", "alternative to", "how are you handling", "we tried X and it didn't work". Sort by new. A thread from this week is a live problem. One from last year is solved.

Collect 2 kinds of people from every good thread:

    • The author, who described the problem.
    • The commenters, especially ones who shared what they tried and why it failed. They're often better leads than the author.

For each one, write down the post, what they said and the subreddit. If you can't write one sentence about why they're on your list, drop them. Aim for 50 to 100 good names by the end of the week.

    04

Week 2 to 3: what do you send in the first chat?

Before the message, visit their profile and upvote 1 or 2 posts you actually found useful. Don't leave a comment just to get noticed.

Then write 2 or 3 sentences: where you saw them, what they said, one real question. (More examples.) No pitch, no link, no company name.

    To an authorGets replies

Hey, saw your post in r/agency about clients ghosting after the proposal. Is that mostly happening on bigger retainers, or across the board?

    To a commenterGets replies

Saw your comment about switching CRMs and your reply rate tanking. In hindsight, was it the list or the messaging?

    Gets reportedGets ignored

Hi! I'm a consultant who helps agencies scale to $50k/month. Here's my free guide: [link]. Want to book a call?

Send 10 to 15 a day, spread across normal hours. Steady beats bursts. Never paste the same text twice.

    05

Week 3: how do you turn replies into calls?

Reply within the hour if you can. Answer the actual question. Share one useful thing before you talk about yourself. When they ask what you do, say it plainly and disclose that you sell it.

    Their reply

Mostly bigger retainers honestly. Smaller ones just sign. Why, do you do something with this?

    Your next move

Yeah, I run a small consultancy that fixes exactly that stage. The usual culprit is the proposal landing without a call booked to walk it through. Happy to show you the 2-step version we use, 20 minutes Thursday?

Follow up once or twice if they go quiet, a few days apart, each time adding something useful. If they say no, stop completely. On Reddit, a pestered person can post about you, and that thread outlives your campaign.

    06

Week 4: what should you measure and change?

Count 4 numbers per subreddit: chats sent, chats accepted, replies, calls booked. Then make 3 decisions.

    1. 1Cut the subreddits with replies but no calls. They're full of the wrong people.
    2. 2Double the subreddits that booked calls, and find 2 more like them.
    3. 3Compare authors and commenters. Whoever books more gets more of next month's messages.

By the end of 30 days you should know whether Reddit is a channel for you, and which corner of it. Most people find that 2 or 3 subreddits produce most of the calls.

    07

What gets agencies and consultants banned on Reddit?

    • Posting promo threads or dropping links in comments.
    • Sockpuppet accounts praising your own service.
    • Copy-pasting the same chat to dozens of people.
    • Messaging people who never wrote about anything related.
    • Ignoring a no, or following up 5 times.

Reddit's own line sums it up: it's fine to be a Redditor with a website, not a website with a Reddit account.

    How Bazooka handles this

What it does on Reddit, step by step.

Bazooka runs this whole plan for you, every day, without the spreadsheet. You pick the subreddits. It collects every author and everyone in the threads, or every commenter on a specific post at every depth, and each lead keeps the post it came from.

The AI writes each opener from their post, comments, subreddit, karma and account age. Before messaging it visits the profile and upvotes 1 to 3 posts, never comments, and starts a Reddit Chat only with people who accept chats, at 15 to 25 profile views and 12 to 18 chats a day per account, on ready-made profiles with their own IP and browser. The AI closer replies, follows up and books the call, and week 4's analysis happens continuously: sources and openers that book get more of the volume. See pricing for plans from $497 a month.

    FAQ

    Questions people ask

How do you get clients from Reddit?

Find threads where your buyers describe the problem you solve, collect the authors and commenters, and start short private chats about what they wrote. Offer a call only once they're interested.

Can you promote your business on Reddit?

Within limits. Reddit suggests keeping self-promotion to around 10% of your activity and disclosing your affiliation, and many subreddits ban it entirely. Private, relevant conversations work better than promo posts.

How many Reddit chats can I send a day?

Reddit doesn't publish a number for app users, and new accounts are restricted at first. Stay modest and steady, around 10 to 15 a day per account, spread across normal hours.

Is Reddit good for finding clients as a freelancer or agency?

Yes. Owners regularly post about lead flow, clients, pricing and tools. Those threads, and the people answering in them, are some of the warmest leads online.

Should I mention my company in the first Reddit message?

No. Lead with their post and a question. When they ask what you do, tell them plainly and disclose that you sell it.
